As we all know, it's been a tough week for NY and the surrounding areas that were hit by Hurricane Sandy (hence our little blogging hiatus). In the wake of its aftermath and in my frenzy to flee uptown for a safe place to stay with power and heat, it would be an understatement to say that the experience made me quickly realize and appreciate those 'basics' in life that we can't help but take for granted... a warm shower (or a shower at all), fresh food, a cup of coffee, gas to fill your car, a quick subway ride, cell phone service, the list goes on. It breaks my heart to think of all those families who still have yet to gain power and who may have lost their homes or loved ones.
New York City, blogging and the fashion industry, in general, tends to be a bit indulgent. It's a lot of fun and shouldn't be taken too seriously, but at the end of the day it's easy to get caught up in all its glamour and excess. So I'm vowing to try to simplify when it comes to my everyday life and routines around the city.
Today, I'm starting with my basic beauty essentials.
My top 10 picks each under $10 are nothing fancy, but simply get the job done at an affordable price.

Speaking of $10, please consider texting REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief, which helps people affected by disasters such as the hurricane last week.
Every little bit helps.
