Recently we were lucky enough to style and be featured in a Refinery29 shoot for the Fall line of Cole Haan shoes and while we were getting our hair and makeup done, we met the woman who would finally teach us how to do a fishtail braid!
Hannah Nichols, of Arrojo salon created this beautiful braid on Lauren for the shoot, but we are certain that with her tutorial, we will def be able to replicate this look on our own at home...and so will you.
1) Part your hair on the side and brush all of your hair over to the side of the parting that has more hair (the heavier side)
2) Split your hair into two sections3) Take a thin strand of hair from the outside of the first section, and add it to the second section. Then take a strand of hair from outside of the second section and add it to the first, so you're basically criss-crossing the strands of hair over each other.
4) Repeat this process until you reach the end of the length, and then secure with a hair tie. Keep in mind that the thinner the strands of hair that you take are, the more detailed and "fish-taily" the braid will look.
5) Run your hands up the braid going against the the grain of the the hair growth to rough it up a bit and create a really cool texture.
Et Voila! There you have it, a perfect fishtail braid that looks pulled together without trying too hard.
And stay tuned for the big reveal of our Refinery29 shoot in September!
