We've said it time and time again, but as two best friends and business partners we feel a great sense of pride when we can support other young entrepreneurial women here on the blog. Today, we're thrilled to introduce you to designer and budding artist, Megan Koranda.
You may have already seen a glimpse of her work on our Instagram and previous posts {here and here}, but today we're going to take a closer look at how this recent art school grad turned the 'armparty' into her own booming business, busywrist. After all, the busier the better!

Q. How did you decide to start your own business? And what was the process like for you to break out on your own?
A. The idea came to me shortly after I graduated college with a degree in advertising/art direction. I've often day-dreamed of a job that would somehow allow me to dabble in advertising, fashion, graphic design and photography (shouldn't be too hard right?) so, being fresh out of college and slightly/very impatient, I decided to invent that job through busywrist. I've always had an eye for accessories and came up with the idea to build a brand around the limitless ways girls can stack and design their wrists, in a way that they can afford!
Q. Where do you draw inspiration for your bracelets and the line?
A. Other people! Since busywrist is less focused on the design of a bracelet and more focused on the design of a wrist, I find myself constantly interested in what other people are wearing and often calculate in my head which types of bracelets would go best with their personal style. The other day I saw a girl on the street rocking a very 'motorcycle-chic' look and my initial thought was "gray jade beads, black shamballa and spikes, she needs a spikey wrap bracelet! I need to get spikey wrap bracelets!"
Q. What are your hopes for the business in the future?
A. To be the only company in the world that sells bracelets. Just kidding but I do want to expand! Currently, busywrist is sold online and also carried by a boutique in Chicago but my goal is to eventually sell the busywrist brand in stores nationally. Also, busywrist 'stacks' will be available online soon which I'm really excited about, stacks are are pre-designed bracelet combos that people can buy for a discounted price!
Q. What would you say have been the biggest wins (and biggest losses) of building your own business?
A. The biggest win other than people actually buying and liking my bracelets, has definitely been the fact that I've managed to successfully develop an amazing creative outlet for myself. Also, my Mom has played an integral role in helping me keep things organized and working closely alongside one another has been really great. The biggest loss has definitely been the amount of sleep I get!
Q. How would you describe your personal style?
A. I'd say my style is eclectic with a tiny hint of tom-boy? I'm a big fan of the basics and keeping it simple when I feel like it but most of the time, I love mixing prints, layering and finding ways to match pieces that don't necessarily match. I rarely wear dresses or skirts and when I do, I tend to find a way to dress them down (don't ask me why). I'm a strong believer in ignoring the 'rules' and wearing whatever YOU like, even if others may not be on board (i.e. my most recent purchase: a big, burgundy and black fur tote...it's me and her against the world).
Q. If you could pick 5 fashion must-haves for every woman what would they be?
1. A perfect, plain white T you can dress up or down
2. Gaudy statement necklace
3. Long sleeved cocktail dress
4. Black Zara high-waist leggings
5. Oversized watch
Q. What fashion trend are you not feeling this season? Why?
I have a love/hate relationship with the sexy 'red lip' everyone does so well these days. Love it on everyone else, hate it on myself. I've been dabbing my lips with cover-up and clear lip gloss since high school and no matter how hard I try, I think my lips are nude for life.
