Back to School Blazers

By Lauren

Well it's back to school season both figuratively and literally for me, as I start my first semester at New York School of Interior Design next week. As I gear up for classes, I want to ensure that I look like a chic design student not a sweat-pant wearing collage co-ed! That ship has sailed!

This is where the perfect blazer comes in handy. Even if you've stayed up hours working and can think of nothing better to wear than your sleep shirt-- throw a blazer over it and you'll instantly look pulled together. Whether you're a working girl or a student, we all have our outfit highs and lows...so trust me when I tell you that a blazer is an essential part of your wardrobe. They also have pockets...something I'm finding I can't live without.

Good Bye Miss Irene!

By Lauren

So Irene has come and gone with little damage in Manhattan, but a whole lot of hoopla! Seems to me that this might be a long hurricane season with record rainfall for August and who knows what is yet to come. But let's not forget that neither hurricanes nor tropical storms will keep us from putting together cute outfits! I spent the weekend in my awesome overalls, but definitely could have used a stylish rain boot.

So I spent my many hours indoors scouring the web for the perfect pair and here they are!

Stormy Forecast

By Julie

Happy almost last weekend of summer! Sad to say we'll be stuck indoors waiting out the storm.

Never thought I'd say I've survived an earthquake and a hurricane in one week!
Never a dull moment in NYC. Lots of love and stay safe!

Monolo Heaven!

By Lauren
I have died and gone to Manolo heaven! Each "back to school" season I treat myself to a new fall shoe to keep me from collapsing into seasonal depression with the end of summer. True story. This year I felt that pointed toe pumps are coming back with a vengance and if I wanted my investment to transcend upcoming seasons, I knew I had to jump on the trend!
These Manolo Blahnik black leather studded/beaded pumps with a silver python heel literally called out my name...so I gave them a home and their own blog post!

What shoes are you buying for the Fall/Winter season?

Lines We Love - Arte Sempre

By Lauren

A few friends of mine told me about this artistic line of clothing and I knew I had to share it with all of you instantly!

New Yorker Jordana Fribourg and West Coast artist Zio Ziegler have teamed up to create Arte Sempre translated to art always. Ziegler’s images are hand-silk-screened by the founders in a Mill Valley, California studio they call “The Greenhouse.”

The art finds its way onto a line of premium t-shirts, sweatshirts, bathing suits, and bags, each hand-made and unique. Fribourg and Ziegler anticipate opening select stores in New York and California.

An Interview with the Designers:

Where did you get the idea to start Arte Sempre?
We got the idea of starting Arte Sempre when we where at school together. Zio was painting a mural at this breakfast place in Providence. We began to realize the connective power of art. It seemed to transcend social circles.  From what it looked like, friendships where formed through art, and an eclectic range of people came together through the vehicle of the mural. We found this inspiring, and ever since it has been the maxim of our concept.

We hope to create clothing, retail and gallery spaces, that provide a localized creative hub where people can feel comfortable discussing art, making friends and sharing their ideas. The clothing is meant to be a canvas that provokes discussion, friendship and collaboration through the random paths of our lives.

Did growing up in NYC have any affect on you as a designer
Jordana: I had no intention of designing clothes when I was growing up in New York.  I loved fashion and art, but mostly I loved seeing what people where wearing on the street.  I don’t really consider myself a designer now but more of a curator, I curate zio’s work onto clothing and create pieces that can channel the artwork effectively.

Zio: I grew up right north of San Francisco in Marin County. Living halfway between a pure state of nature, and a major metropolitan city had a huge influence on me as an artist and designer. I have found the open quality of the woods as a better place for my painting, and the city as a great inspiration for the fashion.

What if you favorite place to shop in NYC?
Jordana: Isabel Marant
Zio: Double RL

What is your favorite restaurant in NYC to go to with friends?
Jordana: Café Habana
Zio: Dos Toros

Birthday Wish-List

By Julie

My birthday always sneaks up on me. Summer flies and before you know it, it's back to school time, the leaves are falling and what do ya know?! I'm one year older. I used to love my birthday because I'm old for my grade (such an adolescent term, but you know what I mean!). It was always cool to get my drivers license first and be the first of my friends to turn 21, but now? Eh, not so cool.  Oh well.

Now, I just spend my time perusing the internet for 'big girl' gifts. Here goes nothin'!

1. I want to spruce up my apartment to make it less oh-so-after-college and more of a home and this just may be an essential for my bedroom, Anthropologie, Live Love Pillow $68
2. Love. Need. Now. I'm a size 7, FYI. JCrew, Darby Calf Hair Loafers, $275
3. To replace the dog that I don't have in the city, Anthropologie, Shaggy Pop Pillow $148
4. There's nothing I love more than my iPhone than its cute techy accessories, Marc by Marc Jacobs Warpikat 4G iPhone Cover, $38
5. Cute shape, go with everything, and my sunnies were just stolen at the gym! Michael Michael Kors, Oversized Sunglasses, $115
6. Every girl needs a little H in her life, right?! Love. Hermes Enamel Cuff, $570
7. My sister has it and it's legit the cutest thing ever. Such a fun piece on a coffee table: Jonathan Adler, Pottery Snail Box $78
8. Come on, they're a classic!! It's a wish-list, after all. Christian Louboutin Very Prive pump, $795
9. Anything with a tuxedo element-- so chic. Mason by Michelle Mason Washed Silk-Georgette Blouse, $315
10. Because they make the bootie look so cute, wide-legs are must this season. J Brand Melissa Wide Leg Jeans, $158

Hey, you only turn 27 once!

It's Haute Outside

By Lauren

This past weekend I had an event for very dear friends of mine, but I had nothing to wear! I mean I probably had something...but nothing that I loved. While I was walking in Southampton, I found the new Haute Hippie store full of boho-chic long skirts, gypsy-esque cardigans, and this amazing one-shoulder jersey dress! Available in a myriad of colors ranging from ruby red to emerald green, I ended up choosing this nude color for its simplicity and the way it looked on a fresh summer tan.
(Pardon the pictures, they were taken as I was rushing out the door...late as usual)

I paired the Grecian dress with old Fendi shoes, a sparkly clutch and jewelry from Julie's personal collection. (What are besties for?!) I also went with forrest green eye makeup and a raspberry lip color from Lip Fusion.

I love getting dressed for a summer cocktail party...sometimes I need that little extra kick to wash the sand out of my hair and put on something other than ripped denim shorts. This was definitely not my usual summer attire, and I loved it!

Out With the Old, In With the New

By Julie

Happy Friday, kiddies!
I'm feeling it's time for a change-- a hair change, that is. And I'm toying with the idea of a bob.

Nooo! Not that kind of bob!

Phew.

This kind of bob.

I've already admitted my obsession with her personal style, but I'm also kind of loving Olivia Palermo's lob (long-bob). It's the perfect shoulder grazing look-- soft and romantic, polished and sophisticated all at the same time. Best of all, it's not too scary of a commitment. If it's a disaster, I could grow it out in just six months (I hope)!

Ahh! Thoughts??

Fall Nail Trends

By Julie

One of our sweetest B&B followers emailed me this week asking what my favorite nail colors are heading into fall. Love that! I'm definitely a Big Apple Red girl at heart, but it's always fun to switch it up from time to time.

makeupalley.com

So for fall, I'm absolutely loving this season's shimmery cafe au laits and cashmere-soft pewters. For us workin' girls it's always important to be mindful of dress codes in the work place, but if I had my way I'd be rocking these colors from now until December!

Sew Psyched is the perfect muddy green! Love.

What are you guys feeling this fall?

What to Wear Where - The Dutch

By Lauren and Julie

In this installment of Wednesday's "What to Wear Where" we are going to tell you about a restaurant that we have both been dying to go to, but haven't been to just yet. We thought we would still share it with all of you because it's at the top of our list and we might as well all compete for a reservation. Perhaps we'll even see you there!

The Dutch is the newest endeavor from the guys behind out favorite Tribeca jaunt, Locanda Verde. That's why we're fully confident to recommend this without having even eaten there yet! We hear the raw bar and desserts are incredible, but we have a feeling that everything is delicious on this classic American menu.

Lauren Would Wear:

"Do you die for these shoes??? A long sleeve mini is a perfect piece for the seasonal transition that we are entering to keep your arms warm but your legs looking summery. Of course we have to have a structured bag and a pop of color. I might have to go out and buy every piece of this outfit!"

1. Rebecca Taylor Dress $425
2. J.Crew Edie Purse $238
3. Bottega Veneta Silver Hoops $380
4. ASOS Metal Bow Belt $13.79
5. Alexander Wang Anais Shoe $650

Julie Would Wear:

Listed Clockwise

"I'd go for muted colors and a minimalist approach for my night at The Dutch. I met the ultra cool blogger and jewelry designer Mimi from Brook&Lyn last week at the Vogue/GAP event and have been dying to work her pieces into my wardrobe ever since! Her pieces truly speak for themselves, don't they? Such an amazing way to complete otherwise simple outfit."

Crazy for Clarks

By Lauren

As a fashion blogger who keeps up with the trends and is constantly shopping, I can tell you that I am not only responsible for my own wardrobe, but also that of all the men in my life! My brother, my father, and my boyfriend all have great taste on their own, but nothing is wrong with a few tweaks here and there.

For Fall, I had my eyes on these classic boots from my grammar school days. Actually, my brother reminded me of the brand, Clarks, and I instantly bought a pair for the other two so no one would get shoe envy...yes, it happens with men as well! Well-priced, and made to be durable...these Clarks Desert Boots come in suede and leather. If you choose the right color, these babies look like they came right off the runways and are a definite must for any of your guys' Fall wardrobes.

These are my 4 favorites!

LA Trip: Inside the GAP 1969 Design Studio

By Julie & Lauren

It was such a pleasure to be invited to tour the GAP 1969 design headquarters in the heart of LA’s garment district. With denim samples splayed out on tables, mood boards scattered throughout the room and huge bay windows opening out to a sunlit ‘brainstorm’ patio, the vast, open-air loft is truly where all the magic happens when it comes to GAP’s premium denim lifestyle line.

Did you know that GAP actually sources all their materials from the same fabric mills as other leading premium denim labels including Current/Elliott?

Gap 1969 prides themselves on a few simple fit facts: jeans that hug your curves for a flatteringly smooth shape, specially designed pocket shapes which are proportionally correct ensuring you look great from every angle and signature leg shapes that give the appearance of longer, slimmer legs. Need I say more?!

For women, there were trendy jewel toned corduroys, spot-on animal prints, barely-there camo and some classically inspired cuts including an Audrey Hepburn-esque cigarette jean (my personal favorite!). Taking a step away from GAP’s ‘safe’ or traditional assortment, the new women’s offering walks along the line of both edgy and sophisticated with pieces you’re sure to mix into your wardrobe for season’s to come. Honestly, isn't that the beauty of GAP?

For men, I was not only incredibly impressed by the cute, surfer-dude models, but I couldn’t take my eyes off the unique textures and washes of the jeans. I am seriously going to buy every man in my life the denim corduroy jean—it’s a must-have. To the eye, it looks like a traditional cord, but when you touch it it’s actually a super-soft, washed denim. Very cool. Boys, if you didn’t already know, cuffs are in and it takes a true man to pull it off! I love this look and highly encourage any guy who has the gusto to rock it. From skinny hipsters to turn of the century work-wear inspiration, the men’s denim lines capture all that a well-fitting pair of denim should be.

I walked away feeling really good about the collection. Sure, I love myself a pair of JBrand’s or Earnest Sewn’s but is it really worth dropping $250 on a pair of jeans?! After seeing this line, it seems pretty silly. 1969 jeans are truly ‘beyond denim’ with an assortment of great sweaters, tees and jackets, too. I put in a personal request for the charcoal grey metallic crop sweater—too cute to pass up.

The line is filled with thoughtful details, easy basics, of-the-moment fashions and premium quality you can trust. Bravo, 1969! A big thank you to the GAP and VOGUE teams for the amazing trip and introduction to this unique brand.

Wild Wallets

By Lauren

As we transition into fall we might lose some of that wonderful color in our wardrobes, but who says we have to take a demure winter approach in everything we wear?! 3. Miu Miu $450
4. Commes Des Garcons $205
5. DVF $250
6. Longchamp $212
7. Marc by Marc Jacobs $78.99
8. Mulberry $420
9. Balenciaga $605
10. Forever 21 $9.80

Which one is you favorite?

Wild Thing

By Julie

Dress: Thayer, Bracelets: Vintage, April Reno, Necklace: Swarovski,
Rings: Vintage, David Yurman, Shoes: Ralph Lauren, Watch: Rolex

I'm not sure if it was the asymmetrical hem, flowy ruffles or glamour-puss print that had me at hello, but I had to get my hands on it! I first fell in love with this dress here and I couldn't have been happier to wear it during my trip to California last week.

Nothing like a wild one in the City of Angels, right?

LA Streets

By Julie

Sandals: Dolce Vita, Dress: ONE by Heather, Vest: J.Crew,
Jewelry: April Reno and Vintage Bangles curated by Alice & Olivia, Bag: Goyard

I've returned from my trip to Los Angeles where we were lucky enough to be a part of an event hosted by Gap and the Vogue Blogger Network. I met some incredibly inspiring bloggers and got a sneak peek at Gap's 1969 denim line, but I'll get to more on that later in the week : )

Fo now, here are some pics of what I wore to the morning event. My new friend and talented LA streetstyle photographer, EvaLotta, from HiStyley was kind enough to share these pictures with me.

More to come...
