Green Smoothies

By Julie

My sister always shares healthy tips with me, but this past weekend in Los Angeles she got me hooked on a brand new habit. Smoothies! A refreshing and surprisingly filling breakfast or snack, we treated ourselves to this green goodness after a combined spin/yoga class.
Perfect way to start the day...

Farmer's Garden Smoothie
adapted from Whole Foods smoothie bar
Makes 2

Ingredients
1 small bunch kale, washed and finely chopped
1 small handful spinach, finely chopped
1 medium banana, cut into chunks
4 strawberries, cut into chunks
1 cup orange juice
1 small handful frozen blueberries or raspberries, about 4-5 berries (optional)
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (optional)

Directions
Combine all ingredients in a blender and pulse until smooth. Kale refuses most blitzing efforts so be patient and keep pulsing until it is puréed enough for your taste.

Enjoy immediately.

That looks so good! I always try to eat kale everyday so this is a great way to do so. I also make smoothies with the acai packets at whole foods, a banana, and almond milk... soooo delish! :)

Oh mama - I had a green smoothie at the store a few weeks ago when someone was doing a demo, and it. was. DELISH. I need to make some at home. I think they one I had was made with spinach, kale, pineapple and banana. YUMS.

merci!

I am honestly not a huge fan of anything green, but this smoothie seems like I could be ok...

Admittedly, I'd probably leave out the kale and spinach -- but it sounds delicious!

the bf swears by these things and is a huge fan of the kale...i'm going to ask if he's putting it in his smoothies. i'm chuckling at the 'blitzing'. it's a tough veggie!

I need a kitchen tool that allows me to make smoothies. This one is, like, the billionth one that I have seen, and every time I see one, I want a damn smoothie that much more.
